Homemade Cinnamon Ornaments

Me and the girls are making these tonight to give as gifts to teachers, scout leaders, coaches, etc. Thought I would share the recipe.

Homemade Cinnamon Ornaments

3/4 cup applesauce
1 cup cinnamon
1 tbsp nutmeg (and/or any other spice that you enjoy the scent)
2 tbsp white Elmer's glue

Mix the cinnamon and nutmeg in a bowl. Add the applesauce and glue. Stir together and mix with hands until it becomes like play dough. If it is too wet, add more cinnamon, if it's too dry add more applesauce.

Divide dough into 2 sections. Place one section at a time on a piece of wax paper sprinkled with cinnamon. Cover with another piece of wax paper. Roll out to a 1/4 inch thickness. Remove top piece of wax paper and cut with cookie cutters. Use a straw to make a hole near the top, but not too close to the edge.

To dry you can either bake for about 2 hours in a 200* oven, or air dry for about 3 days. If you air dry you will need to turn them over once a day to keep the edges from turning up.

Decorate with paints, glitter, beads, whatever you want. Attach a ribbon and hang on tree. These smell incredible! The scent will last a long time but if you notice it starting to fade, put a few drops of cinnamon oil on the back of the ornaments.
